And now for something completely different…


I suppose if I’m going to call myself the baking biologist, I had better demonstrate some evidence that I do in fact bake. Wednesday is lab meeting day, and everybody knows that meetings can only be improved by baked goods. (Last year one of the feedback forms from my undergraduates listed ‘the cookies!!’ as the best attribute of my tutorials). In preparation for tomorrow I’ve baked a batch of the Hummingbird Bakery‘s blondies. Well… a batch and a half. I am of the opinion that a blondie (or brownie) should be a decent thickness, and one batch in my 9″ tin never quite seems wide enough for my tastes, so I make 150% of the recipe (or 2 x in a 9 by 13 tin).
